Energy Management major

Energy systems, markets and the transition at Louvain School of Management

The Energy Management major at the Louvain School of Management (LSM), UCLouvain, examines the energy sector using tools from management, economics, engineering and public policy. It is taught in English in Louvain-la-Neuve as part of the Master’s programmes in Management and Business Engineering.

The major studies investment in energy supply and efficiency, energy-system operation, markets and demand, technology, business models and government policy. Quantitative and analytical methods connect market and management questions with the physical operation of energy systems.

Courses

The 2026-2027 programme consists of five courses:

  • Energy System Analysis
  • Energy Markets and Demand
  • Energy and Transition Perspectives
  • Supply Chain Network Optimization
  • Tools for Supply Chain Management Decisions

Course availability and titles may change by academic year. Consult the official UCLouvain programme for the current formal course list.

Teaching approach

Teaching combines lectures with company visits, games, group work and individual projects. Students learn to analyse techno-economic problems using several methods and to present how systems work and how proposed changes affect them.

Guest speakers and site visits

The programme of guest speakers and site visits for 2026-2027 is being prepared. Dates, locations and speakers will be added once they are confirmed. The 2025-2026 guest lectures and visits remain available as a record of the previous academic year.

Career paths

The major provides a background for work in energy-intensive firms, energy strategy and consulting, government and regulatory agencies, and commodity markets. Its interdisciplinary structure prepares students to work with engineers, economists, lawyers and managers.
