PhD Funding Opportunities

PhD Applicants

Students joining my research group at UCLouvain typically have a strong background in economics and quantitative methods. In particular, they are among the stronger students in their cohort and have solid graduate training in microeconomics, econometrics, and mathematics.

Typical background

  • Top 5–10% of their cohort (or equivalent distinction)
  • Graduate-level training in microeconomics, game theory, and econometrics
  • Solid mathematical training (multivariable calculus, linear algebra, optimization, probability)

Indicative level

  • Microeconomics comparable to Mas-Colell, Whinston, Green
  • Game theory at the level of Osborne–Rubinstein
  • Econometrics at the level of Wooldridge or Angrist–Pischke

  • Transcripts with detailed course list and grades
  • A short research statement (max. 1 page) outlining a research question and proposed approach

Funding

PhD funding can be obtained in several ways:

PhD Aspirant at F.R.S.-FNRS (Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique).

PhD fellowships in social sciences at F.R.S.–FNRS (Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique).

Teaching assistant position (“mandats d’assistant·e”) at UCLouvain.

Research projects

Some research projects may foresee funding for new PhD positions.
