Energy systems, markets and the transition at Louvain School of Management
The Energy Management major at the Louvain School of Management (LSM), UCLouvain, examines the energy sector using tools from management, economics, engineering and public policy. It is taught in English in Louvain-la-Neuve as part of the Master’s programmes in Management and Business Engineering.
The major studies investment in energy supply and efficiency, energy-system operation, markets and demand, technology, business models and government policy. Quantitative and analytical methods connect market and management questions with the physical operation of energy systems.

Teaching approach
Teaching combines lectures with company visits, games, group work and individual projects. Students learn to analyse techno-economic problems using several methods and to present how systems work and how proposed changes affect them.

Career paths
The major provides a background for work in energy-intensive firms, energy strategy and consulting, government and regulatory agencies, and commodity markets. Its interdisciplinary structure prepares students to work with engineers, economists, lawyers and managers.
