Research Interests     Climate Change Policy

Introduction

From Sept 2004 until Dec 2005 I coordinated the climate change research consortium CLIMNEG 2. The consortium included economists and climatologists of U.C.L. and economists of K.U.Leuven.

Book on Climate Change Policy

One of the results of the project was a book which I edited jointly with Johan Eyckmans and Stef Proost: "The Economics of Climate Change Policy" . The book explains for a large public the different choices and trade-offs society needs to make in designing a climate change policy.

Optimal Emission Paths with Uncertainty

Together with Johan Eyckmans and Jean-Pascal van Ypersele I wrote a chapter on optimal emission paths. We especially studied how uncertainty affects the optimal path: We do not know how much damage global warming will cause. Do we need to do more or less when we are uncertain over possible disasters in the future?

Stability of Environmental Agreements

I am currently working on two papers which look at stability of Environmental Agreements.

  • A first paper considers whether trade restrictions for CO2-intensive products could stabilize Environmental Agreements.
  • A second paper studies under which conditions Maskin's equilibrium concept for co-operative games can be extended to four or more players.
